Embrace the Joy of Autumn in Tennessee

Living in a region that experiences all four seasons brings the unique pleasure of autumn.

In Tennessee, my home state, autumn is the epitome of perfect weather. The prolonged, sweltering days of summer gradually transition to cooler, crisper temperatures. After several months of intense heat, this change is much appreciated.

In my opinion, autumn arrives perfectly timed. Just after September begins, there’s a noticeable chill in the air during the mornings and evenings. Although the days are still warm, the humidity lessens, making the daytime heat more tolerable.

Tennessee is home to many towering trees. As the season transitions, hints of orange, red, and yellow emerge, heralding the coming change of seasons.

Bring out the Candles

Although summer brings some delightful fragrances, burning a candle in 90-degree weather isn’t always appealing. Yet, with a slight chill in the air, we can finally ignite our candles. The autumn scents of hickory, pumpkin, and apple spice permeate our home.

Fall decor

Given that autumn is a short season, I prefer to decorate for it after September begins. I do so gradually, mirroring the gradual change of the seasons.

Fall Leisure

Autumn offers the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities. The crisp air and vibrant leaves create an unforgettable experience. There’s nothing quite like a hike through the forest or a walk in the park on a cool autumn day. One of our favorite hiking and picnic spots in Nashville is Percy Warner park. Here you’ll find both a two-mile and a four-mile trail through the woods. Even though it’s right in the middle of the city, you’re completely surrounded by nature.

In the fall, our communities come alive with festivals. Nashville alone hosts over 15 events, not including those in the surrounding counties. Cheekwood Harvest showcases a variety of autumn flora. Our region is also rich in music festivals, befitting its nickname, Music City. Additionally, there are child-friendly festivals all over town featuring pumpkin patches and corn mazes.

It’s a great time to be outside no matter what you choose to do.

Fall Travel

With school back in session, amazing travel deals across the US become available from Labor Day until Thanksgiving. The sole exception is October, due to some schools fall breaks. Recently, JetBlue advertised $19 and $29 fares to various cities. If your schedule allows, it’s a great time to take a trip!

Autumn speaks

Autumn is often considered the most serene season. Spring brings excitement, summer is eventful, but sometimes exhausting, and winter can be harsh.

Autumn heralds the release of summer’s excitement, ushering in a period of tranquility. The vibrant green foliage transforms into a tapestry of colors before descending gracefully to the earth. One by one, each leaf relinquishes its hold, paving the path for rebirth in the spring.

It reminds me of our own circle of life. With each new generation that emerges, we fulfill our roles on Earth, and gradually, one by one, we leave.

We do not worry when we see the leaves wither, and the trees stand bare. For we know that with the arrival of spring, new life will emerge.

Likewise, while we mourn the passing of our loved ones, we do not succumb to utter despair. For we know that those who have died in the Lord will be granted new life on resurrection day. (Acts 24:15)

Autumn reminds us to hope and long for that day.

While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night will not cease. – Genesis 8:22

  1. Very good words to ponder. I will concur that I welcome the relief of summer heat, however we know that the chill of winter follows ever so quickly. Love the analogy of the pattern of life
